Alternative energy

World energy demand is currently covered mainly by the exploitation of non-renewable resources such as oil, coal, gas, and wood and, to a lesser extent, by the generation of nuclear energy. There will come a time, however, when natural resources have been depleted. Governments are currently under pressure to look for alternatives - also to nuclear energy - that are less damaging to the environment. Key alternatives, beside energy conservation measures, are hydro-power, solar power, wind, geothermal power, and bioenergy. Biogas, a methane-containing source of energy derived from organic matter has enjoyed a virtual boom over the past few years.

During that time, power generation from biogas has established itself as a technology holding promise for the future.
